Your business,
wired together.

CircuitCoder designs, builds and rescues software for small and mid-sized companies: web and mobile apps, integrations between the tools you already use, and dashboards from your data.

What we build

Most projects start with one of these. Many end up touching two or three.

Selected work

Client work

Wi-Fi web app for an emissions-testing console

Apex Instruments' XD-502 logs more than a dozen sensors during EPA smokestack tests. We built a web app into the console, so technicians can run, calibrate and download a test from any phone or laptop.

Client
Apex Instruments
Built with
C++, C, JavaScript, FreeRTOS
Result
Shipped to end users, with over-the-air updates and seven languages

Wi-Fi web app for an emissions-testing console

XD-502 web app dashboard: run timer and next-point countdown, eight temperatures, ΔP, ΔH and target ΔH, vacuum, barometric pressure, gas meter volume, flow and K-factor.

Firmware for an automated sampling console

A ground-up firmware and software rewrite for Apex Instruments' next-generation sampling console, with a simulator that tests it all before the hardware arrives.

Client
Apex Instruments
Built with
C, Python, JavaScript, ESP-IDF
Status
In development

Firmware for an automated sampling console

The browser dashboard mid-run: auto flow holds ΔH on its target and the isokinetic rate stays inside the 90 to 110% band. Recorded with the real firmware running in our MechSim hardware simulator.
The console's 7-inch touchscreen showing the same run.

Our own products

Apps and learning resources we design, build and maintain ourselves.

How a project runs

  1. Intro call

A free 30-minute call about the problem, not the technology. You get an honest read on whether custom software is worth it for you.

  2. Scope and quote

A short written plan covering what gets built, what it costs and when it lands.

  3. Build in small releases

You see working software every week or two, so priorities can shift as we learn.

  4. Launch and support

Deployment, documentation and a handover your team can follow, with ongoing support if you want it.

About CircuitCoder

CircuitCoder is a software development studio in Raleigh, North Carolina. We work with companies that don't have a software team of their own, or whose team is stretched thin, and we stay on after launch.

Nicholas Howe, founder

Nicholas studied computer science at NC State and UNC Asheville, graduating in 2025, with undergraduate research comparing neural network architectures for predicting time-series data.

He has since built firmware and web software for Apex Instruments' emissions-testing equipment, the studio's own Android apps, and a free MicroPython course. He's at his best taking a product from idea to release, or picking up a project someone else left unfinished.

He works in Python, JavaScript, Kotlin, Java, C, C++ and PHP, and every CircuitCoder project is scoped and led by him personally.

Puzzles and lessons

A new logic puzzle every day and a newsletter every week. Both free, with no account needed.
